The problem is that I believe much of the snow could not get into the gauge. I have not yet emptied the second gauge because it is harder to get to without snowshoes, and I have not had time to deal with it. Again, the pile of snow on top seemed to limit what could fall inside. (Yes, I had removed the inner and top parts, but the snow still did not all go in.) |

My gauge with the higher reading of 0.38 was closer to the snow blowing off the roof. I measured the snow in the gauges to get an approximate snowfall depth of 5 inches. With all of the blowing, any measurement in any part of the yard would be approximate, if not totally off. |

There was a beautiful frost that covered everything this morning including the rain gauges. I do believe it was frost, not actual precipitation, or is there a difference? They both come from 'clouds'. |

I waited to empty the gauges until it stopped snowing. After that there were a few flurries. For the last several weeks we have had so little snow at a time that the gauges dried out before the following morning's reading, so I wanted to catch it this time before it evaporated.
