One of those late winter/early spring days when you can't decide whether you should put out just the outer tube or add the inner tube and funnel to the rain gauge. I had heard it was going to be just rain so I put in the funnel and inner tube into the rain gauge for the first time this year. So, it started as rain, and my rain gauge inner tube read .51" but the top funnel of my rain gauge was filled with snow that came later overnight. So I scraped the snow out of the inside of the funnel and weighed it and found .36” fell as snow/ice. So my idea turned out to be an unintentional way to figure out what part of the moisture overnight fell as snow (.36") and what part fell is rain (.51"). Okay maybe only an interesting way for someone who has been doing this for nearly 10 years.
